El Centro Nacional de Investigaciones en Salud Materno Infantil (CENISMI) fue creado mediante decreto presidencial No. 243-86 del 31 de marzo del 1986, con fines de fomentar, organizar, planificar y ejecutar investigaciones en el área de la salud materno infantil.
